10 Essentials for Skin Care Junkies
Finding your holy grail top shelfie skincare products can be a lot like dating. There are the really bad experiences that should never be spoken of. And then there are the really good experiences. The ones you tell all your girlfriends about because someone finally touched your cold, dark soul. These holy grail skincare products are of the latter occurrence and deserve all the praisings they receive, and then some.
The French do so many things better (pretty much everything), and skincare is one of them. Something that is perfect even for sensitive skin is their OG micellar water, which has a cult following for a reason. They say if it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it must be a duck, but there’s always an exception to every rule and Bioderma is one exception. It looks like water, and feels like water, but it does so much more than water if you’re trying to remove makeup. Even on no makeup days when your skin needs a little grime-away and pick me up, it cleanses and leaves the skin clean and fresh.
A moisturizer and makeup primer in one, this heavy duty moisturizer is thick and creamy, but never heavy, greasy, or suffocating. It makes the skin very smooth and soft, smells of fresh citrus, and makes foundation apply like butter.
For someone with combination skin, moisturizing can be complicated. You want something that will moisturize, but not smother or feel heavy. The Ceramidin Liquid does just that and makes the face very supple and plump-- in a good way. If you have dry skin then it’s the perfect precursor before a thicker moisturizer since it’s thin and lightweight. If you have combo skin like me then you can get away with solely using this, but you can top it off with another moisturizer if you want some extra nourishment and TLC.
If you’re a lazy girl (me), but also super into skincare (also me) then this face mask is about to become your new bestie. All you need is five minutes alone with this cooling gel textured face mask and you’ll be left with fresh new effervescent skin. The rosewater helps to soothe any inflammations or irritations, balances the skin’s pH, and even does a little something something for the good old olfactory system because it smells like fresh, crisp roses. The glycolic acid exfoliates away dead, dull skin, and overtime helps brighten things up and lighten blemish scars. Something my skin desperately needs.
One of my biggest skin obsessions is a nice face mist, and this one is my number one. It is packed with mindful ingredients that don’t just refresh the skin, but actually do something. I’m on my third bottle of this, and when I don’t use it religiously, my skin pays for it, and I notice. Since using this, my skin has become brighter, softer, more supple, and clearer. Being without this would be skincare blasphemy.
I never thought I’d like a cleansing balm, nonetheless become a cleansing balm groupie until my skin came in contact with this one. It was love at first face wash. You only need a small amount because it melts once it comes in contact with your skin, spreading lusciously, and melting away all the makeup and grime of the day. The best part about this is that it turns into a milky consistency once it touches water so the wash off can be messy, but easy. It doesn’t leave behind any residue, just clean, but not stripped, happy skin. Bonus: it smells like citrus and awakens the nose.
If you’re going to invest in skincare, then make sure to protect those skincare investments by protecting your face from the sun. This SPF uses zinc oxide and titanium dioxide to give you broad spectrum protection sans those controversial chemicals that potentially do more harm than good. What makes this SPF stand out from the rest? A couple things. It’s completely transparent when blended in-- a hard thing to do when you have zinc oxide-- and it is very nourishing. So if, like me, you’re perpetually running late you don’t need to go through the step of moisturizing beforehand.
Another way to protect thy skin is with antioxidants. This milky serum makes a great addition to any morning skincare routine to boost protection from the sun, and to help fight free radical damage that can occur simply by going outside and being exposed to pollution.
Blemishes-- you’re a cruel one. And the UFO oil is a good one to have on hand if your blemish prone skin is seeking some janitorial assistance. I was reluctant to pick this up since it is on the pricier side of the spectrum, but I noticed a difference after the first night of application. Come morning, my skin looked clearer, more nourished, and using it consistently helped fade old marks and clear things up even more. The second ingredient in the bottle, black cumin seed oil, is very pungent, but it fights acne causing bacteria and contains essential vitamins and minerals. The smell, not so great. The product, one of the best.
THE ORDINARY LACTIC ACID 10% + ha 2%
Another lazy girl approved ingredient is lactic acid. If you want bright and shiny new skin then use an AHA like lactic acid and let it do all the work for you. The Ordinary’s version is a budget friendly option that works really well. It strips away the dull, dead skin without stripping your wallet of its funds like some other famous lactic acid treatments. An extra advantage: they have two strengths, 5% and 10%, so you can cater the strength to your skin’s sensitivities and needs.
