5 Spot Treatments for Acne

As someone in her late twenties who still deals with breakouts and the occasional cystic spot, I think I have tried every trick in the book to clear up my skin. This includes (but is not limited to) cortisone shots, lasers, pills, topical gels, expensive facials and more. Thankfully I have finally learned that I do not need to enter panic mode every time I feel a pimple coming in because there are some amazing spot treatments on the market that can help clear up your skin fast.

Origins Out of Trouble 10 Minute Mask

$26 USD / $33 CAD

If you have experienced acne, you probably know that sulfur is a game changing ingredient for drying out spots. This mask by Origins is a Holy Grail product for me because it has sulfur, zinc oxide and camphor that work together to clear and calm skin. It helps reduce oil and sloughs away dead cells, leaving skin clear of any pore blockages. I can always tell that any breakouts I have are less inflamed and smaller after I use this mask. It is quite drying, so I use it twice a week focusing it on the areas with active breakouts.

COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch

$6 USD

If you have yet to discover pimple patches, you are truly missing out. They’re life changing! Pimple Patches are hydrocolloid patches with ingredients like liquid paraffin, betaine salicylate and white willow bark that essentially treat pimples like a wound while reducing redness and clearing out pores. To put it bluntly, these patches literally suck the gunk right out of your pimple while healing the skin beneath it. I love these because not only do they help clear up spots, but they stop me from touching my face. I always have five packs of these on hand so that I never run out- that’s how obsessed I am.

Renée Rouleau Anti Bump Solution

$47.50 USD

We’ve probably all learned the hard way that rubbing normal spot treatments on under-the-skin cystic spots just leaves you with red, flaky and irritated skin with a bump still under the surface. That is exactly why I love this Anti Bump Solution by Renée Rouleau. It’s a fast acting solution that reduces the appearance of cystic acne and blemishes by reducing inflammation without the drying or irritation. When I use this on a cystic pimple, it usually goes away within days. When I don’t use this product, spots can last up to a week or longer. This is another great product to always have on hand when the odd cystic spot shows up.

Indie Lee Blemish Lotion

$26 USD / $35 CAD

Drying lotion is one of my favorite forms on spot treatments. This one by Indie Lee has ingredients like colloidal sulfur and salicylic acid to help draw impurities out of the follicle and zinc oxide to help soothe skin. This product works amazing on stubborn pimples that have come to a head but won’t go away. Just dab a little on with a Q-tip overnight and you will wake up with a noticeably smaller spot.

MURAD Rapid Relief Acne Spot Treatment

$22 USD / $30 CAD

OK, this product really delivers. It is a maximum strength two percent salicylic acid formula that reduces blemish size and redness in as little as four hours. It’s a clear gel formula that works really well under makeup, so you can conceal and treat at the same time. I have fair skin, so any trace of a spot is so noticeable on my skin. This product is amazing because it really helps combat the redness that comes along with blemishes while drying them out fast. Just be careful when using this, it is a strong product so you can definitely overdo it and dry out your skin if you’re not careful.
