Cindy's Top Shelf: Summer Shower Edit
On the face I'm using Glossier's Milky Jelly Cleanser which is my holy grail face cleanser. It's gentle on the skin yet effective at taking off makeup (with the exception of waterproof mascara). It always leaves my skin feeling super clean but never stripped. (Score 20% off your first Glossier order through my rep link here). I'm a bit of a clean freak and always go in with a double cleanse, and this is where I've been going in with my Indie Lee Rosehip Cleanser. As you can see, this bottle is on it's last leg as it's that good. This one does sud up quite a bit and usually that means dried out skin, but with Indie Lee products your skin never gets irritated or dried out, it is just left clean and soothed.
Hair wise I've been extremely fortunate to have been testing out some higher end hair products this year. I was sent some hair bits from MacVoil and Phyto Paris. MacVoil has a line for anti-aging hair products, and although I'm in my mid 20s, I'm big on watching out for my hair. I've been using the MacVoil shampoo *and conditioner* (which I just finished up), and I gotta say my hair is so soft and healthy. My hair can be a bit crazy but when I use this shampoo I get that nice air dried look. During the summer I try to avoid heat styling as it's too hot and I can't be bothered. I still like to go in with a nice hair masque to just keep my hair looking shiny and healthy. I usually lighten my hair in the summer and this helps combat the look of unhealthy hair. This year I'm letting my locks grow out, so I'm just enjoying giving myself a little hair time pamper sesh. My hair mask of choice has been the Phyto Phytojoba Intense Hydrating Brilliant Mask, which really does such a great job at leaving my hair shiny but never weighed down.
While I leave a hair mask in I usually like to treat my body to a little pamper as well. I recently went to Korea and got the most amazing full body scrub. Every single inch of me was so smooth and soft. In all efforts to keep that up, I've been big on exfoliants and scrubs. I've been eyeing the Herbivore Botanicals Coco Rose Body Polish for a while and I'm happy to say it has a nice thick and gritty texture that sloughs off all the dead skin. I also got a face scrub from Peony Cosmetics which is their Prayers Answered scrub*. I'm not big on using exfoliants on my face as my skin is very sensitive, so I opted for using this scrub on my neck and chest, and in areas that my skin tends to be sensitive as well. I'm happy to say my skin has not been irritated and these have helped me maintain that smooth skin appearance for the last few months. I'm hoping I maintain the good habits of regularly exfoliating throughout the rest of the year.
I don't reach for exfoliators on a day to day basis, but on days that I don't I like to go in with a quick dry brush session. I read about dry brushing a while back and I love the idea that it helps with blood circulation. It's also a nice little relaxing pamper session and honestly much more enjoyable in the summer months when it isn't unbearably cold to stand in your shower. I have this round dry brush from EcoTools which has done the job, but honestly I'm sure you could find one anywhere!
Since it is summer time, we all know that the limbs like to come out of hiding and see the sun. I've never been big on shaving creams as I find them to be a bit unnecessary and a bit messy. Last year I came across an article about using shower oils to shave and gave it a try with a deluxe sample of the L'Occitane Almond Oil Shower Oil. Needless to say it was an amazing experience and it left me with the softest skin afterwards. I've repurchased the larger size and will probably continue to do so. Fast forward to this past spring, Harry's sent me their chic Winston razor* and I'm never turning back to women's razors. These give me the closest shave and I would say they're much better than your typical razor. Better yet? They're a fraction of the cost. I usually use an epilator for my underarms as the results just last longer and better, but the same duo can be used their as well on lazier days.
