Cindy's Top Shelf: Summer Makeup Edit
I doubt I'll ever be one of those girls that lives a true "minimal makeup collection" life. Although my overall makeup look is quite minimal on a day-to-day basis, I do like to have myself a wide variety of products to choose from that helps me get there. For me, getting ready in the morning is a routine I cherish and I will get cranky if that routine gets interrupted. As the weather has warmed up over the last month and the heat is likely to stay around for the next few months, there are a good few products that I've been reaching for that are better suited for these higher temperatures.
I have two base staples that are guaranteed to work year round for me: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint. The two of these together really create that flawless and skin-like finish, without ever looking cakey. For any extra bits of redness that need a helping hand, the Glossier Stretch Concealer has been my go to. It provides a nice subtle wash of color over any remaining redness and never ever creases - also making it the perfect under-eye concealer. As it is summertime and my skin likes to get a little greasy by the end of the day, I like to give my face a light dust of powder. The Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot Face Powder has been the best option for me and I've been reaching for it every single day for the last 2 months and have finally hit pan on it.
To achieve that highly sought after summer glow, I've been reaching for three products to help me achieve ethereal glow status. The Marc Jacobs Beauty Coconut Dew Drops, MILK Makeup Holographic Stick in MARS, and BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in Opal. These can each be used on their own or tripled together for the glowiest arsenal of products you ever did see. The MJ Coconut Dew Drops are perfect for mixing into your foundation or adding over your skin for an intense strobe of glow - the coconut scent is a nice addition. The MILK Makeup stick is the most beautiful peachy pink color that just glides on and seamlessly blends into your skin. And BECCA Opal has quickly turned into one of my favorite shades out of the BECCA highlight fam as it suits my 'tanned summer skin' best with a sort of peachy/golden glow. As a fairly pale gal, I need all the help in the sun-kissed skin department. My cheat this summer, along with highlighters galore, has been the BECCA Sunlit Bronzer in Bronzed Bondi. I usually apply this in the figure 3/B motion on my face and add a touch more on the tops of my cheek for a "just came from the beach" glow and it has been marvelous.
On the blush front it's been pretty clear that the Glossier Cloud Paints have taken over as my prime blush option. They have a range of 4 shades (Dusk, Haze, Puff, Beam) which can all easily be worn on their own or mixed with another. I know some people have had issues with lasting powers, but personally on me they last all day long (for reference: I have combination skin but my skin tends to be more dry around my cheek area). The tiniest amount of product is enough to add a subtle wash of pigmentation onto my cheeks and it's there until the end of the day when I want to take it off. On those lazier days when I'm not looking to blend with my fingers, I'll reach for the BECCA Mineral Blush in Wild Honey. This one is a peachy nude which adds the healthiest flush of color to my cheeks. If you can't tell, peach seems to be the color palette for me this summer.
On the brow side I've been rather simple. My quick 1 minute routine involves my Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Duo (in Medium) which I like to apply with an angled brush. I'll usually then brush it out and set it with my Glossier Boy Brow in Brown or Clear - depending if I'm up for a more bold or subtle brow. On the eyes I've been readjusting to life without lash extensions but reaching for a simple brown eyeliner and/or a quick cat-eye flick. When my eyes need a little pick me up I'll give them a quick curl and add a waterproof mascara which I know will last all day and keep these straight Asian lashes of mine curled. I am a self-confessed lipstick addict, but this summer I've been going for a more minimal approach. I'll usually go in with a balm of some sort - either my Dior Creme de Rose Lip Balm or one of my many Glossier Balm Dot Coms (although it's been a toss up between Coconut and Cherry). If I'm looking for a flush of color I've been reaching for two of my Glossier Generation G Matte Lipsticks: Cake (you guessed - a peachy nude) and Like (a powdery pink). And the last thing to top off my summer top shelf has been my Diptyque Eau Rose perfume. It's light and refreshing and I love that the scent lingers and meshes so well with my body chemistry. Honestly, I will never tire of rose scented anything!
But there you have it! Everything I've been reaching for in this summer season. What are some of your favorite top shelf beauty items you've been reaching for this summer?
