Testing Out a French Skincare Routine

I’ve been a skincare enthusiast for years - and a bit of a serial product tester - which means I’ve tried everything from a Korean skincare routine to a natural routine, and even no routine at all. It seemed about time that I finally try out the low maintenance, effortless French skincare products I’ve been reading about for what seems like forever. So, I spent a couple of weeks putting a few products to the test. Here’s what I did and didn’t love:

 Bioderma Micellar Water

Everyone and their mother raves about this stuff for removing makeup. It was the first micellar water I’ve ever tried (having been a makeup wipe addict) and I had, well, mixed feelings about it. It did get my makeup off, but took 4-5 cotton pads to do it, and I honestly couldn’t tell if my face was any cleaner than usual makeup removal. It did the job, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t love that it has xylitol in it or that Bioderma is not cruelty-free. I’ll be sticking with the (cruelty and alcohol-free) Velvet Report Micellar Water instead.

 Avène Antirougeurs Dermo-Cleansing Milk

I picked out this face wash because my skin is ultra-sensitive and turns red at the slightest bit of pressure or temperature change - which means I typically look like a tomato after washing my face. This cleanser promised to reduce redness and be gentle on my skin, so I took the plunge. Overall it wasn’t too bad! It was gentle, but it didn’t reduce redness as much as I hoped or do a great job of removing makeup. If you’re looking for something like this but better, I’d suggest the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser.

 Avène Eau Thermale Spring Water

If you’ve read any of my other posts, you’ll know I’m obsessed with face mists. This one was no different. I love that it’s refreshing and soothing, and frankly, comes in the biggest bottle of any face mist I’ve ever seen. A total winner. Sadly, this is another company that’s not cruelty-free, so I probably won’t repurchase, but you can bet I’ll use every last drop.

 Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré

This is one product I knew I had to try after hearing so much hype about it. It’s a nice and rich cream, but lightweight enough that it sinks into the skin beautifully and provides a nice base for makeup. I honestly have no complaints about this one! It doesn’t irritate my skin or make me break out, and the tube itself surprisingly great.

There you have it! This routine didn’t change my life, but I definitely found one or two gems!
