Hot Weather Favourites
Warmer weather coupled with high humidity days are upon us. Living with oily skin in the tropics I’ve learnt to adapt to avoid looking like an oil slick. Fresh and dewy is the theme for summer. Let’s get glowy not oily.
Gel moisturisers are my jam, heavy creams lead to my inevitable destruction. I’m talking major clogged pores, even oiler skin and breakout city. Oily skinned folk like me this moisturizer is a dream. It’s quite a cocktail: honey, royal jelly, fatty acids, and Cupuaçu butter beads that melt on contact with the skin and that’s only the tip of the iceberg. All this goodness is in a lightweight formula with a natural looking finish that locks in hydration all day. It’s a moisturizer I can see myself repurchasing again and again.
No one wants their face to melt off in the heat which is all too possible with heavy foundations. It’s a lot like a tinted moisturizer in a water gel form. The mica in the formula gives an undeniable glow and radiance without the shine. It evens out my skin tone, it’s buildable without being cakey and it’s SPF 20. These days I’m opting for lighter coverage and not building it up like I used to. Skin is in and it’s refreshing.
Missha All Around Safe Block Essence Sun Milk SPF50+/PA+++
Please, I beg you, don’t rely on SPF in your makeup tocompletely protect you from the sun. Realistically we don’t apply enough makeup to get the coverage we need. Get a dedicated sunscreen, it’s the best antiaging product out there!I’ve had the best luck with Asian sunscreens. The formulas I’ve come across are elegant, lightweight and nourishing. This one in particular has additional plant extracts to offer sun protection without drying out my skin. Most importantly it’s sweat and water resistant for foolproof protection on hot summer days. Don’t forget your neck and ears!
Masking is my favourite part of my routine, I sheet mask every other day. There’s nothing like cool on your face in the heat of summer. This is a sheet mask in a jar, I’m telling you. Imagine coming home after a long day and piling a burst of cool hydration on your face. The Vitamin C, ginger and turmeric combo makes for an instantly brighter complexion. I also love using this before an outing for ultimate glow.
Wearing natural deodorant can be difficult especially in the heat. I’ve tried and liked a few over the years, but Lavnila Sport is a real winner. It’s keeps me fresh all day even in the Caribbean! At the end of the hottest days I still smell like vanilla and jasmine.
The mist that got me into mists. I thought they were all hype until I got this one and now I have five. Jordan Samuel is my absolute favourite, it’s so hydrating and nourishing. I even decanted some into a travel bottle to mist throughout the day to keep cool and add additional hydration to my skin. Misting at my desk at work somehow also makes any oil disappear which is a plus. I also enjoy misting after powder for a more skin like finish.
