Reds for Every Occasion
I am queen of red lipsticks. At one point I think I had at least 20 of them. I may have justified having so many by telling myself they were all different and not the same shade of red.
Red lipstick makes me feel powerful. If I'm feeling insecure (whether that's emotionally or physically) a red lip always makes me feel like I can go out and conquer anything. My go to these days is barely there makeup with a bright red. While I may gravitate towards a power red I do know that those aren't always the most appropriate for workplaces so I've also found some muted almost “my lips but better” options that still allow me to satiate my red lipstick addiction but with something more wearable during work hours.
Below are my favorite reds for work, play, school and the rest of your life.
These are my ride or die reds. The Lip Magnet formula is one of the best liquid lipstick formulas I've ever tried and that says something because I've tried a lot. Super comfortable and the wear time is amazing even through oily meals. I consider 402 to be my "daytime" red since it pulls slightly orange and is warm toned. 400 is a true universal red and will look good on almost anyone.
This is a perfect red for those sultry date nights. It's a deep, slightly blackened red that is absolutely gorgeous and one of the more unique reds that I've encountered. This formula can be slightly drying, so if you're dying to try a shade like this in a cream format, another alternative is the Hourglass' Confession Ultra Slim in At Night ($42 USD) is almost a perfect dupe color-wise, but has a cream, non-stain formula.
This is the perfect work day shade of red. It's a muted dusty rose with a slight red tinge. Think of it as a darker version of a MLBB. It's a demi-matte and super comfortable. The wear time doesn't compare to some of the others on this list but re-application is easy and it fades well.
This is the perfect bright red for a picnic date or for when you meet your boyfriend's or girlfriend's family. I really enjoy the Generation G's because you can wear them sheer or build them up for a more opaque look. Zip is a bright cheerful red and is perfect for those just getting into bold colors.
This is a bam in your face red that also happens to be a gloss with the staying power of a matte liquid lipstick. These are super comfortable and I normally don't say that about glosses because I’m more of a matte gal. These remind me of YSL's glossy stains in regards to the staying power (lasts through a meal and then some) and color pay off but come at a much cheaper price point. One layer gets you a hint of color and two allows for a fully opaque look. Because of the formula I find this shade appropriate for a lot of occasions be it brunch, an afternoon date or work (when worn as one layer). Be Brilliant is a gorgeous orange red and like the Generation Gs, I think the formula is great for anyone who’s hesitant about wearing a bold red in public.
