Luxury Winter Lip Faves

I don’t know what it is about Summer that makes me avoid lip products (maybe it’s the soul crushing heat or suffocating humidity) but I refuse to wear anything other than maybe a tinted balm or a lip-gloss until at least September. Once fall arrives, however, my lip game is on point. The weather turns and all of a sudden my preferences do too; berries, mattes, gem tones – they’re all fair game. Here are five I’ll be reaching for well into winter.

YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture The Slim Matte Lipstick

$39 USD

The first look I want to rock once the cooler winds start to blow is a red lip. For many this classic is a year-round go-to but for me it’s the lip I reach for to get myself in the mood for fall. My newest find is YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture The Slim Matte Lipstick in shade 21-Rouge Paradoxe. The uniquely shaped bullet first grabbed my attention but this stunner goes beyond eye candy. The formula is a true matte with serious staying power and can best be described as feeling like lightweight leather (which maybe isn’t your usual description for a lipstick, but just go with it). It’s only slightly drying, so a generous dose of lip balm before application will do the trick of keeping the color saturated without leaving your lips looking or feeling like cracked raisins.

NARS Audacious Lipstick

$34 USD

Once my red fix has been met, I crave my lips to match the shades of the changing leaves. Yes, I’m serious. If you don’t match your look to the weather you’re doing it wrong. NARS has one of the best formulas on the market with their Audacious lipsticks and the tangerine shade, Geraldine, is my go-to orange. This perfect reddish-orange is universally flattering and looks expensive and luxurious and not like you just ate too many Cheetos, which is an important distinction. If orange isn’t your thing I still highly recommend this formula. They have over 50 shades so you’re sure to find a favorite.

NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment

$26 USD

A formula I cannot stand in the summer but works beautifully in colder months is a liquid lipstick. While many on the market are extremely drying and look ridiculous unless you have the lips of a Kardashian, NARS manages to have made another game-changing formula with their Powermatte Lip Pigment. The single swipe full coverage color and long-lasting comfortable wear mean these are staple in my makeup bag for fall and winter. They don’t completely dry down like a classic liquid lip so while they will transfer they never make my lips feel dried out as many other liquid lips do. I love a brown lip for fall, so I’ll be reaching for Slow Ride, which is the perfect pink-brown that’ll go with everything.

Tom Ford Lip Color

$55 USD

You can’t go wrong with a berry shade for the holiday season. My go-to is Bruised Plum by Tom Ford. The name is spot-on as a descriptor for the shade; it’s a beautiful plumy purple with a hint of blue-based red. I also think it’s the perfect hue for anyone who hasn’t tried a berry lip before as it will look gorgeous on every skin tone and isn’t too deep to be intimidating.

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour

$37 USD

Lastly, Chanel. Nothing says, “I’m ready to live in oversized chunky sweaters and sip endless mugs of hot cocoa while looking like an off-duty model” like Chanel. Their Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour is every lipstick lover’s dream. The formula glides on without tugging and has a perfect matte-but-not-too-matte finish which is also conveniently non-drying due to yummy ingredients like jojoba oil and shea butter. It’ll last most of the day but I generally can’t resist a touch up just so I have an excuse to whip out the sumptuous tube again. My go shade is 62-Libre, a my-lips-but-better pinky nude.
