Mary's Current Favourites
Working in a beauty store, there’s no shortage of colour, skincare and haircare options. It can be overwhelming, so a product has to be pretty awesome to earn its spot at the top. I’ve comprised a list of these products that are versatile and are suitable for all different skin types and tones.
I was always one for a good towel turban. I would walk around the house balancing a heavy towel on my head. The Aquis Lisse Luxe Hair Turban was probably one of my greatest discoveries when it came to hair care. Its fabric absorbs moisture significantly reducing drying time while remaining comfortable to wear. I love that I can wear this around the house and do all my chores because it’s so light; no more tugging on my locks and neck cramps. The design also makes it super easy to secure as well.
I’ve never been to a spa, but if I was to guess what it would be like I’d say something like Omorovicza’s Thermal Cleansing Balm. This cleanser is like magic; rich and hydrating, as well as purifying, the Hungarian moor mud, fulvic acid and sweet almond oil leave the skin feeling like a baby’s bottom. This is my ultimate “treat yo’self” cleanser; when I’m feeling down I scoop out a bit of this and it melts my stress away. If you’re looking for a spa in a jar, look no further.
Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturizer is my favourite base for no makeup, makeup days. It’s light, hydrating and has a physical SPF 30. The brilliance of this baby is that unlike other tinted moisturizers, the pigment is wrapped in mineral-infused water, so your skin gets a burst of hydration every time you apply it. For added coverage I layer it under the Original Loose Powder Foundation SPF 15 which still lets the skin breathe as it hides imperfections.
The Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer is ALWAYS in my handbag. Not only does it give full coverage, it also has a skin like quality that blends so beautifully whether you’re wearing foundation or not. Even though it is matte, I find this works so well under the eyes as well, even for those with dry skin. I also use this to carve out the brows, since it’s so creamy and blends like a dream. Truly the COMPLETE package.
There’s not much more I can say about Nars Laguna Bronzing Powder other than it is my perfect bronzer. It gives me a true sun-kissed look and for those lazy days it doubles as a contour since the colour is more of an olive-brown as opposed to the traditional orange-brown. I would recommend this for all light-medium skin tones as it’s so buildable. It also doubles as a perfect crease shade when you’re in a rush.
My favourite blush at the moment is Too Faced’s Sweetheart Blush in “Peach Beach”. The colours mix together to create a warm, summery flush with a lovely sheen. I can even excuse the pull-off lid and cardboard packaging because the colour is so lovely.
In a world where beauty shops fill shelves with luxurious and often insanely priced lip balms, Frank Body’s Lip balm still stands its ground as a solid and affordable option. There’s no petroleum in this either, just things like Vitamin E, Coconut and Grapeseed Oil, as well as coffee oil which gives it a great sweet taste and smell. In Australia, Frank Body has been around since 2013 and it was an IMMEDIATE hit. It was the first Instagram sensation I had witnessed with people sharing photos using their original coffee scrub (you’ve probably seen a lot of knock offs since). The brand is provocative, fun and they really hit it out of the park with the lip balm. It seems some brands blessed by Instagram can withstand the tests of time.
