Mary's Night Routine

Some nights my skin is just not feeling it. Working long shifts with a full face of makeup under hot lights doesn’t help; neither does picking at my face while flicking through pages of uni readings that barely make sense. Not to mention I have long struggled with hormonal acne and eczema. So, there are some nights where I need a serious, and some may say extravagant, night time skincare routine. Call me crazy but on these days, nothing works better than this serious routine to regulate and restore glow to my skin.

So where do we start? Day in and day out I consult with people who aren’t happy with the state of their skin. The first question I ask is “Do you double cleanse?”. It’s a simple question but the power of the double cleanse is often not communicated. Double cleansing is the key to clearing makeup related breakouts.

Now I’ve given you myspiel on double cleansing I’m going to take it to another level. I’m talking sonic cleansing. Yes, we’ve probably all come across this in our skincare journey and let me tell you there was a point where I was sceptical. What do you mean my face is never clean without a sonic device? There’s no way it can be “gentle”. Here I stand today, a convert to the genius that is sonic cleansing. My choice is the Clarisonic Mia Fit and I pair it with Omorovicza’s ‘Cleansing Foam’. The Cleansing Foam boasts of copper gluconate to regulate sebum production and, apple pectin to provide the skin with a lasting suppleness. Together, these legends ensure my base makeup is removed and my skin is detoxified. Next up I go in with a cult favourite, the Thermal Cleansing Balm from Omorovicza. This removes my eye makeup, leaves my skin feeling as soft as a baby’s bottom and ensures there isn’t a trace of makeup or daily pollution left on my face.

Now the cleansing ritual is complete we move on to treating the skin, because as Tom Haverford said so profoundly, you should “Treat Yo self”. My serum of choice is T.L.C Framboos Glycolic Night Serum from Drunk Elephant. While it has an epic 10% Glycolic acid and 2% Salicylic acid, my sensitive skin still loves this has raspberry fruit and cactus extracts soothe the skin. To increase the efficacy of T.L.C while simultaneously moisturizing my skin, I mix 100% Pure Argan Oil by Josie Maran with it. Two drops of 100% Pure Argan Oil mixed with one pump T.L.C Night serum lathered all over my face and neck is the recipe for next morning glow.

For the eyes, I go simple with a new favorite of mine; Mario Badescu’s Glycolic Eye Cream. With 14g of product and a rich, emollient texture, is sure to last me a lifetime but I’m not sick of it yet. My under eyes feel hydrated and usual flakiness is no longer a problem.

The last step is one I cannot go without; lip balm. Lately I’ve been using Frank Body’s Lip Balm. It smells, and tastes, like sweet coffee and has loads of natural oils in it. It’s also made in Australia, the place I call home, so I may be a tad biased.

So, there you have it, a serious routine for those days when my skin has had enough. Excessive some may argue, but as Cyrus Rose so passionately states, I think it’s “not enough!”. From my cabinet to yours I wish you nothing but success in achieving your skin goals.
