Testing New Products: 4 Skin Transformers and 1 Underperformer

This one is a double edged sword. It has a unique serum-like texture. It’s very thin, but potent. For that reason, it’s been great for covering discoloration, and a little goes a long way to cover under-eye discoloration! Be warned—this will not conceal atop dry skin. Its thin texture does little to hydrate or nourish skin, so if you have a dry spot, do with a creamier concealer. Also, don’t use too much of this since a little goes a long way!

I’ve been using this for less than a week, but I already love waking up, stumbling to the bathroom mirror, and seeing my face in the morning after using this. It’s quite rich, and a little goes a long way. I’ve been applying a thin layer of this, and then topping it with an overnight mask (I use this one), and then a facial oil (I use this one). In the morning, my face is hydrated and plump, but also super bright and clear—I’ve found I’ve been using less concealer!

Here it is: the underwhelmer. I’ve been impressed by Dr. Jart products before (the Cicapair moisturizer is one of my favorites!), but this product just didn’t do much for me. I never felt like this product gave my skin a tightening or brightening boost. If anything, it was hydrating, but I have other products for that. So, this one wasn’t as effective as I had hoped.

Okay. OKAY. I recognize that this product is super pricey, but it’s…amazing. Close your eyes. Imagine your whole nighttime routine plus all of your hopes and dreams for what your face looks like the next morning…and put it in a bottle. Tah-dah! Here it is! After I use this, my face is firm, bright, and clear in the morning, no other products necessary. It’s a sort of miraculous, league-of-its own product. I like using it the night before fancy occasions, or when I need to look extra sharp in the morning. I use it as my only serum, and top it with a moisturizer. Nothing else is necessary--this can do it on its own!

The reality of this product’s appearance on this list is that I’m just excited for spring. And there’s something about a fun, bright, spring lip that really wakes up the face from long cold winter months! I found that the “Juicy” version of these (now discontinued) wasn’t very pigmented, so I was skeptical about the color payoff with this new matte formula, but I’m impressed! It does require reapplication after eating, but it’s totally worth it for this warm peach color. Bring on spring!
