Sarah's 2017 Favorites

In a year with an endless stream of new skincare releases, it’s easy to get lost in the next hot thing. This January I wanted to give my skincare a collection a good hard look to figure out which products were really and truly working for my skin. Here’s who came out on top.

Jordan Samuel Skin The After Show Treatment Cleanser

Best 1st cleanse

$20 USD

This hybrid gel-oil cleanser is a lazy girl’s DREAM. Last year I really tried to get into the double cleansing thing, but sometimes we just do not have time for that. This formula seriously gets all my makeup (and spf!) off without stripping skin of necessary oils. Once applied, the oil-based formula emulsifies and rinses beautifully with no slimy finish. Bonus: it can also double as an extra hydrating mask!

 Fresh Soy FACE Cleanser

$38 USD

Ah, this cleanser is just one of those products I look forward to using in the morning. With a slightly jelly texture and light rose scent, this cleanser is kind of the cool, grown up version of Glossier’s Milky Jelly.

Thayer’s Witch Hazel Toner in Rose Petal

$8 USD

Along from being casually spotted in virtually every top sheflie this year, this hydrating toner has been with me through thick and thin. Honestly it’s probably my most used product this year! Whether I’m breaking out in cystic acne or dying of dehydration face, this toner always seems to bring my skin back down to normal. Not to mention it smells absolutely divine.

Sahasra Jasmine Floral Spray

The be-all, end-all of mists. This jasmine infused spray literally comes with me everywhere I go… honestly I might have separation anxiety. Out of all the mists I’ve tried, this Sahasra spray is by far the most hydrating. I always reach for this before I apply moisturizer and after foundation/setting powder. It always gives a glowy, hydrated finish without smudging makeup.

May Coop Raw Sauce

May coop’s raw sauce has been a new addition to my stash after spotting it on clearance at my local TJ Maxx. To be honest I’ve never really used an essence before, as I’m usually looking for thicker, more hydrating products. Oh boy was I wrong. Despite being almost toner-thin, this essence hydrates even better than most serums. I’ve been slathering on multiple layers every night since I purchased this and my skin has never looked better.

Skinceuticals HA Intensifier

If I could bath in this, I would. Loaded with Hyaluronic acid and glycerin, this serum plumps up tired, dehydrated skin almost immediately.  I’m particularly picky about my serums- they have to be hydrating but not the least bit sticky. It feels like I’ve tested billions of serums this year (both luxury and drugstore) and this Skinceuticals gem came out on top.

Stratia Liquid Gold

So I FINALLY jumped on the bandwagon and purchased liquid gold- literally. I couldn’t come up with a better name for this multitasking hydrator. It’s chock full of ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids, which are all essential for maintaining a healthy skin barrier. This moisturizer has completely saved my skin when I get a little too heavy handed with defoliants and acne treatments.

Glossier priming moisturizer rich

I seriously tried to limit the amount of Glossier on this list, but so many of their products have become everyday staples in my routine so I couldn’t resist! Earlier this year, Glossier launched a “rich” version of their cult classic priming moisturizer that features a thicker formula with a gorgeous lavender scent. I absolutely love how quickly this cream sinks into my skin, leaving it soft and plump.

Tula Exfoliating Treatment Mask

For me, 2017 was the year of exfoliation. I tested countless toners, masks, and treatments with glycolic, lactic, and salicylic acids. All of which can be incredibly brightening and renewing for your complexion…and a little addicting to use. I definitely struggled with over exfoliation, which can lead to raw, sensitive skin. Luckily I discovered the Tula exfoliating treatment mask, which holds the perfect balance of effective exfoliating and gentle nourishment. Tula includes probiotics in their skincare, which works to maintain the skin’s natural balance. On their website, Tula reports a study in which 100% of women said they would recommend this mask to a friend after using it just once…which is EXACTLY what I did. I swear I texted every female in my phone about this mask. My skin has never been softer, nor my pores more refined. Simple perfection.

Clark’s Botanicals Retinol Rescue Eye Serum

At the beginning of 2017, I made a resolution to start using eye cream consistently. This was such a struggle for me because I couldn’t find one I loved- they all seemed to be too thin, too sticky, or pilled under makeup.  I was originally terrified of using a retinol formula on my eyes, but Clark’s did a fantastic job with this hydrating serum. It sinks in immediately and instantly brightens tired under eyes. This serum made such a difference in my eyes I can’t go a morning without it!

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask

This category was seriously a tough one. Overnight treatments are my absolute favorite part of skincare. You can lather one on and then go straight to bed- easy peasy. Glow recipe’s watermelon mask had a grand entrance into 2017- selling out in almost every outlet it was sold in. I was originally unconvinced, assuming the mask was just a novelty. But oh man, did I drink the Kool-Aid. This overnight mask has a very soft and jelly-like texture that spreads across the skin beautifully. It provides gentle exfoliation combined with great hydration, which is basically my dream skincare product. Every night I use this I wake up with soft, even toned skin.

Glossier Moisturizing Moon Mask

Honestly this was probably the easiest category to decide. Glossier’s moon mask always comes through with an extra boost of hydration whether I leave it on for the prescribed 20 minutes or leave a light layer overnight, which seems to be a crowd favorite for application. When I have those over exfoliation moments, this mask will always bring my sensitive skin back from the dead.

Sahasra Monoi Glow Body Oil

First of all, this body oil is literally GORGEOUS. This jasmine scented oil sinks in almost immediately, and leaves the prettiest glow. There are a few similar “shimmery” body oils on the market, but this is one of the only oils I have found that doesn’t leave you looking like you’re covered in craft glitter. Hot tip- apply this on collar bones, shoulders, and décolletage for an instant back-from-vacation look.

Did one of your favorites make the list? Let me know!
