Top 5 Sheer Lip Products
This summer has been all about a sheer, glossy lip. It’s the perfect way to pull together an effortless look, especially when you’re going for a more minimal, “no makeup” makeup approach. There’s five formulas I’ve been rotating through all summer and cover pretty much every occasion.
People went wild for these when they first came out, and I’m still reaching for the Cherry Symphony shade day after day. These are a pigment suspended in oil that you shake up to mix before applying with a fun sponge applicator. They leave a beautiful sheer wash of glossy color that helps to nourish the lips as well. These are perfect if you want a “just bitten” look. I’d recommend sticking to the brighter-looking shades - they still look natural on the lips, but are more noticeable than the nudes.
Nudestix is killing it lately. They’ve got so many different lip formulas in their line, but my top pick of them all are the Gel Color Balms. As the name suggests, they’re balmy and comfortable on the lips and give a sheer wash of color. Rather than being ultra shiny and glossy, they give a subtle sheen that really makes the lips look plumper. My favorite shades here are Pulse for a plummy nude and Wicked for a deeper berry stain.
These aren’t talked about nearly enough - they’re some of the most beautiful lip products I’ve ever applied. They feel quite rich, luxurious, and nourishing on the lips without being heavy. The shades are sheer and adaptable - I’m convinced Jennifer is the most perfect nude out there, and Rachelle leaves more of a berry/nude flush.
One of the most unique lip options out there, the Glossier Generation G lipsticks surely don’t disappoint. If you’re going for a subtle, popsicle-stained lip, then these should be your first stop. They apply on the lips like a balm, but have a matte finish that mimics the look of your lips naturally. All of the shades are quite sheer but can be built up to stronger color. My favorites are Like, which gives a beautiful soft pink flush to the lips, and Jam, a berry shade that looks just like the stain a grape popsicle would leave.
I’ve massively whittled down my MAC lipstick collection, and pretty much all that’s left are shades in the Lustre finish. They are sheer, comfortable, and a tiny bit shimmery, so they really enhance the look of the lips and are really flattering. My absolute favorite (and maybe my favorite MAC lipstick, period) is Syrup, a plummy pink nude that goes well with so many looks. Patisserie is also one of my absolute favorite nudes.
Have you been into sheer lip colors this summer, or do you prefer more pigmented picks?
