Makeup with Benefits (29).gif

As a self-proclaimed skincare junkie, justifying the amount of makeup I wear is hard. I’m a double cleanse freak for that reason exactly, no trace is to be left behind. However, makeup holds a special place in my heart, it has been there for me through severe breakouts, allergic reactions and most importantly it allows me to use my creative side while I’m bound to my uni work. Makeup however isn’t all bad, it can actually utilize the power of skincare to treat your skin while you wear it. So, I’ve made a list of excellent makeup that is infused with skincare, to assist you in navigating the shelve.

Smashbox is the King of primers, if you don’t know now you do. Even so, when this product was released it took everyone by surprise. Moisturizer and primer sound like too much of a hassle when you’re rushing for work in the morning? Never fear, the Primerizer truly is the best of both worlds. It features Hyaluronic Acid (yes that buzzword hydrator) that holds 1000x its weight in water, Niacinamide (aka Vitamin B3) which assists in correcting skin tone, firming and reducing the look imperfections, and Caffeine great for energizing the skin in the morning. To say the least, Smashbox’s break into the world of skincare was a great one.

For all of you normal-dry/dehydrated girls my top pick is the Hourglass Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint. Yes, you guessed it, the hyaluronic acid in this baby makes it perfect for regulating hydration levels throughout the day. The coverage is also very buildable, more than your average tinted moisturizer, and it leaves you with a beautiful glow.

Combination-Oily or Blemish prone? I’ve got you covered. At first I was at a loss, yes there are great foundations and base options for these skin types but how many actually work to improve the skin? So, I turned to my trusty skincare guru, Arti (the_artistry) and she of course had the perfect recommendation. Blemish Remedy foundation by Bare Minerals is the perfect option for both treating skin while giving a light to medium coverage. Featured ingredients include: Tea tree oil which is anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory, perfect for fighting active breakouts, Salicylic Acid which exfoliates within the pore to keep skin continually clear and Aspen Bark which is soothing, conditioning and anti-seborrheic (meaning it prevents excess sebum from being secreted. Hooray for all you oily girls and boys!)

So, we’ve got our base done and dusted, now to add some color to our cheeks we turn to Perricone MD’s “No Makeup Makeup” range. Dr Perricone’s No Makeup Highlighter has light reflecting pearls to instantly brighten the complexion, while also incorporating Vitamin C Ester to brighten the skin clinically over time, promoting more even skin tone. This is also found in the No Makeup Bronzer which has SPF 30 (he’s thought of everything) while the No Makeup Blush incorporates the famous Perricone MD DMAE which has an instant firming effect on the skin.

For mascara and eyeshadow, I look no further than By Terry. The Ombre Blackstar is cult in the industry for being a quick and easy way to a glam eye look. What you may not know is that these stunners are infused with Tahition Black pearl which is high in calcium and tocopherols (high in antioxidant Vitamin E) helping to reduce lines and wrinkles as well as firming the eye area. Now for my favouite of them all, Mascara Terrybly is a lash growth serum disguised as a volumizing mascara. The Glycoprotein rich Lumicoat Technology encourages lash growth from the root, while collagen and hyaluronic acid nourish the lashes, and let me tell you, this stuff works. After a terrible allergic reaction from a drugstore moisturizer, my eyes were never the same, including my lashes which began falling out. After hearing about this mascara, I decided to give it a go and almost a year later my lashes have never looked longer and fuller.

Talika has the eyebrows down with their Liposourcils Ink, a precise pen applicator dispenses the treatment infused ink so you can achieve instantly fuller brows while promoting the growth of brows over time. The treatment includes peptides to fortify the strength of brow hairs, a mixture of witch hazel, st John’s Wort and horse chestnut to promote brow growth and Coleus forskohlii which intensifies the natural colour of eyebrow hairs. Persistence is key with this one, use this consistently every day to see the best results.

To set the face I’m bringing us back to the genius that is By Terry. The Hyaluronic Hydra Powder fits beautifully into both your makeup and skincare routines. This powder has silica, a natural non-pore clogging alternative to silicone that soaks up excess oil and hyaluronic acid to plump the skin up and create a poreless finish. Top tip: use this to top off your skincare at night to ensure all your products work their best and your skin stays hydrated.

With twelve nourishing oils bursting with vitamins and omegas, we can’t look past Bite Beauty's Amuse Bouche lipsticks for a colour rich lip treatment to finish off the perfect skincare infused makeup look.

Don’t let anyone tell you makeup is inherently bad for your skin. I still preach the end of day double cleanser but makeup can protect and treat your skin during the day while giving you confidence to be a girl boss!
