Brand Overview: Stila

For a brand that’s over 20 years old and has found its place in many celebrity makeup bags, Stila Cosmetics is one that still keeps a fairly low profile within the booming cosmetics industry. That’s not to say it’s not popular, because it is; women of all ages come into my store and ask me over and over again, “Where is Stila?”. Stila cosmetics has remained steadfast in an industry that is arguably over-populated with sub-par choices. Some products have been so well received they’ve even achieved cult status. I’ve curated a list of my favourites which are all functional and beautiful products.

The ultimate “no-makeup makeup, Stila’s Convertible Colours are a girl on the run’s dream come true. Housed in a colour-matching compact, I first learn about this product during my early teens when I would search through hundreds of [insert celebrity IT girl] “what’s in my bag” posts on Elle and Vogue (don’t judge). These are gorgeous cream colours that can be used on the lips, cheeks, and even eyes (if you’re wanting that monochromatic look).

Super creamy and multi-use, their Smudge Pots are super underrated. These make the best, waterproof eyeliner if you prefer applying with a brush! They also sit beautifully in the waterline and double as a pigmented cream shadow or base to other colours.

I feel very comfortable in saying that these are one of a kind; nothing compares. When the Glitter and Glow Liquid Eyeshadows first released they were a sell-out. We had a waitlist as long as a trip from Sydney to New York. I have to admit I was sceptical at first, glitter has never been my thing so I wasn’t that excited, oh how I was wrong. These are not only super glittery but they have a pigmented base colour so one swipe and you’re done. The colours are classic and can take you from easy everyday look to glitter cut-crease with no problem. My favourite is Rose-Gold Retro!

Although not a specific product, Stila’s cult shade “Kitten” is a must have. Whether it’s the intensely pigmented single shadow, the subtle and sweet Heaven’s Hue highlighter, or the creamy smudge pot, kitten will never let you down. If you’re obsessed with achieving “that glow”, then kitten is a MUST for your kit.

There can’t be a Stila overview without giving an honourable mention to the OG liquid lipstick, Stay All Day. Rich in colour, long-lasting and first of its kind, the Stay All Day liquid lipsticks have a special place in my heart. Fiery is my ultimate deep red, even after a great night of singing and dancing, it stays put. For those of you who struggle with chronic chapped lips, try the Plumping Lip Primer underneath (or even with your favourite Kylie Lip Kits) it’s my secret weapon for smooth and comfortable wear.

Holiday Must Haves

With holidays coming up I’d be remiss not to mention the sought-after holiday sets that Stila has, two of which are standouts. The Eye for Elegance set, which contains three of the Glitter and Glow shadows, as well as three colours in the all new Shimmer and Glow formula (run don’t walk). The Big Shots set with the HUGE Lash Mascara and Stay All Day Liquid Liner is a steal (almost two for the price of one) and a great way to familiarise yourself with two truly impressive products.

I could go on and on with all the great options Stila has but for now I’ll leave you with these and let you explore the rest! Good luck, and happy shopping!
