Summer Switch-Ups

Winter seemed interminable, but now summer has finally rolled in and it is hot hot hot. My Midwest digs mean that my summers are overbearing and humid, and the moisture that I was trying to give my skin during the winter seems plentiful now!

My skin still stays pretty dry in the summer (even with my increased water intake), but I don’t want to drench it in thick and emollient products like I do in the winter. So, here are some of the products that I’ve loved for summer: barely there but hydrating.

Caudalie VinoPerfect Radiance Serum

($79 USD/$95 CAD)

Rain, shine, snow, hot, cold, humid, dry, this is going on my face. It’s perfect all year round. It has a watery consistency and leaves a slight residue, but not one that I ever mind. I apply it as the first part of my moisturizing routine, right after my Vitamin C or antioxidant serum in the morning.

Belif The True Cream—Aqua Bomb

($38 USD/$47 CAD)

(Note: not to be confused with The True Cream—Moisturizing Bomb. That one is much thicker and tends to break me out!) The Aqua Bomb a gel consistency and it applies like a dream. It absorbs into skin quickly, feels light and cool, and doesn’t leave a sticky residue. The tub looks small, but the product lasts far longer than I had imagined it would. When I get the chance to pick up some samples of this, I always go for it! My curiosity for this moisturizer came from my experience with…

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Water Gel Face Moisturizer

($8 USD/$10 CAD)

This moisturizer. I picked this up at Target a few years ago (when I was a skincare noob) and really enjoyed it. In many ways, it’s similar to the Belif moisturizer, and for a cool $8, you really can’t beat it. Even though I didn’t know much about skincare when I first tried this, I’d definitely pick it up again!

Paula’s Choice Omega+ Complex Moisturizer

($35 USD)

In the winter, I like to wake up in the morning looking as glowyas I did after I put on my nighttime skincare routine. But in the summer, I don’t want any excess product making me feel hotterand stickier than I already do. Enter this moisturizer. As with any Paula’s Choice product, the formula is dedicated to amazing ingredients, with no frills, no excess, and no nonsense. I like using this moisturizer in the summer because it hydrates my face and absorbs well by morning! It gives me just what I need and no more!

Drunk Elephant Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser

($32 USD/$42 CAD)

I experiment with cleansers all year round, and I tend to use milky cleansers in the winter and gel cleansers in the summer. I recently (and finally) came across this gel cleanser from Drunk Elephant, and I’ve been impressed by it! It opens with a convenient twist-top which is wonderful since lids are tricky things to mess with when you’re in the middle of washing your face. The gel consistency is non-foaming, so it’s gentle on skin, but still effective. It doesn’t have a fragrance and leaves my face feeling clean, not stripped.
