Worth the Splurge: Tatcha The Essence

When it comes to overly pricey products I tend to be reluctant to even consider spending so much on a single product. I understand that sometimes you’re paying more for better ingredients and better efficacy, but I also understand that sometimes you’re paying more just for the brand name. I don’t think expensive automatically equals better - ever. That’s why I was honestly surprised that when I started my search for an essence step in my skincare routine, I kept being drawn back to Tatcha’s iteration. At $95 it’s hardly an affordable addition to anyone’s top shelf.

What really drew me in, besides the endless good reviews, was the story and the ingredients behind the product. Tatcha’s products are derived from traditional Japanese skincare secrets and the Essence features Japanese superfoods for anti-aging, smoothing, resurfacing, and hydrating. It even claims to make all of your other products work better. And at 150ml in a bottle, you actually get quite a bit of product for the high cost.

So, does it actually work? After almost a month of using it twice a day, I have to say I’m so pleasantly surprised. When I wake up in the morning my skin looks hydrated, plump, more even-toned, and radiant. It’s the sort of difference where I felt like my skin looked fine before, but this actually manages to take my skin up to another level. I still have some skin problems, but I am consistently wowed by the overall quality of my skin since I started using this. I can’t say whether it necessarily makes the rest of my routine more effective, but it does seem to help everything I put on top of it to absorb better.

Is it worth the splurge? I mean, it’s definitely not an absolutely necessary part of your skincare routine. However, if you want something that’s going to take your skin from fine to radiant, then this is definitely a product to consider! I’ve been impressed with every Tatcha product I’ve tried, and this one is no different.
