I Woke Up Like This: Products for a Fresh + Awake Look

Ideally we’re all blessed with enough time in the mornings to revel in an extensive beauty routine, but the reality is, many of us are lucky if we get ten minutes after hitting snooze for the seventh or tenth time—myself included. Even so, I’ve built a routine that’s more so focused around what products I’m using rather than how many I can fit in. It’s just enough to spare the world of my under-eye bags and dull skin, and be able to say “I woke up like this.”

Skin prep is the most essential step in giving off that fresh and awake vibe in the mornings. Vitamin C, in particular, targets lacklustre skin and reveals a brighter complexion. My favorite Vitamin C products are the Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum ($80 USD) for under my moisturizer and the Red Earth Beauty Brighten Concentrate Oil ($45 USD) pre-makeup. The new Ole henriksen Banana Bright Eye Crème ($38 USD) is another favorite for that “fake awake” look. Infused with Vitamin C, this eye cream visibly reduces dark circles to brighten the eye area, replicating the effects of banana powder, a makeup artist’s staple. Post-skincare but before makeup application, I apply the Origins Original Skin Pore Perfecting Cooling Primer ($32 USD) to awaken the skin with a cooling sensation and create a smooth, even canvas for the minimal makeup ahead.

When I’m in a rush but want to add a boost to my skin’s appearance, I focus on balancing out my base and adding a bit of intentional color to give a healthy flush. For evening out the look of redness and discoloration, I smear on the Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint ($26 USD) or the First Aid Beauty Triple Protection Skin Tint ($34 USD). To further cancel out the appearance of dark circles and brighten the undereye area, I add a touch of the Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector ($32 USD) and then light concealer over top. For a fresh, peachy flush of color on the cheeks, I use the Glossier Cloud Paint in Beam ($18 USD). Another trick that can really make you look alive is adding a bright tint of color to the lips, such as the Fresh Passion Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment ($24 USD). To top off the look, the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist ($48 USD) refreshes the skin in all of its dewy glory.
