Caroline Vazzana of Making it in Manhattan

Meet Caroline Vazzana fashion editor, stylist, and founder of Making it in Manhattan - a fashion based editorial site with a focus on career advice. Vazzana offers inspiration to both millennials and Gen Z teens who have dreams of "making it" in the fashion industry. She pulls back the curtain to reveal a behind the scenes look at what it's like to be a fashionista in the Big Apple.

Caroline decided to leave her job after months of deliberating and wanting to become her own boss. Once she got her  website up and running, and started styling jobs on the side, she left her 9-5 job. She says she is a, “now or never” person, and she took the leap of faith.

Caroline’s day usually includes lots of running around the city to attend appointments at designer showrooms. Several days each week, she’s shooting projects or collaborations and writing content for Making it in Manhattan. Caroline says, “the best education you can get before entering the world of fashion is through internships”. College gave her experience in collaborating with others, researching, and problem solving. However, styling and consulting are skills she learned while out in the field while interning.

Caroline's advice to girls who want to make it in Manhattan? Never take no for an answer. "As long as you’re willing to put in the work then you’re set.”. The hardest part of her job is knowing when to disconnect and take a break. Along with the challenges, the most rewarding part of her job is having the platform to share her style and voice.

In the next 5 years, she hopes to continue sharing her voice and her story. She’s not quite sure what the future holds but she knows she wants to continue building Making it in Manhattan. Caroline would love to see her site become a top editorial site in the fashion industry. She views her age an advantage in her career and loves setting age oriented goals for herself, which she feels keeps her on her toes.

In the near future, stay tuned for more brand partnerships, and her largest project, Making it in Manhattan, the book. This Summer, Caroline will be publishing her first book, Making It in Manhattan: The Beginner's Guide to Surviving & Thriving in the World of Fashion, which is available for pre-order and will be in bookstores in August of this year.
