Micaela has always had an interest in art, but was never exposed to the digital arts in school. She started her blog, Oh My Drifter , in 2008 and through that, found websites like Flickr and DeviantArt, which opened her eyes to the world of photography and graphic design. She fell in love and started dabbling in photography, took photos of a girl she went to school with, and eventually presented her portfolio to a few modeling agencies in San Francisco to start testing with their new faces. To this day, Micaela still uses these modeling agencies to find models. When applying to colleges, Michaela was really intrigued by graphic design, and decided to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design online while continuing to work on her fashion photography on the side.

Micaela's company, Drifter Organics, was born as a result of her lifelong autoimmune issues. She's suffered from severe eczema her entire life, and in 2014, was diagnosed with a leaky gut causes by Dysbiosis, which is an imbalance of good and bad bacteria in the gut. Because of this, Micaela was forced to temporarily eliminate certain foods from her diet, which also meant revamping her entire skincare routine. She and her mom spent an immeasurable amount of time finding suitable skincare options for her, and ultimately decided to make it themselves. Micaela learned to be careful of not only what she ate, but what she was putting on her skin as well. The pair got to work on creating a line of safe skincare, that would be helpful for everyone, especially those with allergies and ingredient intolerance.

Because Micaela manages so many different projects, no two days are alike for her. A typical day might include a mix of writing, editing, errand-running, and meetings. Micaela wakes up with the sun, checks her social media, answers emails, and does light work for another hour and then works out. After her daily workout, she'll have a shower and breakfast, then start her day at 9AM. She works from home, balancing schoolwork, photography projects, and working on Drifter.

Micaela's favorite Drifter Organics product is their Serenity Now Body Butter. It's made with a mixture of lavender, palmarosa, helichrysum, and frankincense essential oils for relaxation and stress relief. She's also obsessed with their thick and deeply penetrating Smile Balm, perfect for healing perpetually chapped and cracked lips.

in April of 2016, Micaela and her mother ran a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for the launch of Drifter Organics, and raised over $11,000 in just 30 days. Micaela's advice to aspiring entrepreneurs? "Don't wait for the perfect opportunity to start. If you do, you will never start," says Micaela, "One of my favorite mantras I repeat to myself is, 'It doesn't have to be perfect' When you first start out, nothing you do has to be perfect. Don't let perfectionism hinder your productivity. You will grow simply by the experience of working on your craft every day."
