Meet Nyakio Greico, founder of the clean and green beauty line, Nyakio Beauty. The brand is inspired by the beauty secrets passed down to her by medicine men, farmers, educators, and her girlfriends, and has influences from around the globe.
Nyakio founded her beauty line in her 20s after graduating from the University of Oklahoma and recognizing how many countries were under-represented in prestige skincare. She says, “I had the chance to tell the story and bring good-for-you ethically and sustainably sourced ingredients, in crafted efficacious formulas, celebrating secrets from my family, friends and travels to market, I had to take that leap of faith!” She does note that she learned, through experience, the internal power of taking big risks and trusting in your instincts.
She may be busy running a beauty line, but Nyakio makes it clear how important it is for her to spend time with her husband, children, and friends, as well as to work out and meditate, in the midst of creating content and working with her team. “I also make time to mentor young women through their Operation Smart (STEM) program at Girls, Inc., because I’m passionate about young women understanding from an early age that we are great at math and science, and science jobs are fun!” she says. Every day is different for an entrepreneur, and when it comes to success Nyakio stresses the importance of both making connections and authenticity. She says, “I believe that success is a combination of determination, resilience, luck and faith. I am committed to research, nurturing my relationships, and asking for help. I’ve been blessed to have great mentors in my life.”
Nyakio Beauty is known for its use of natural ingredients from around the globe. Nyakio’s current favorite from the collection - and a favorite of several celebrity makeup artists - is the Maracuja & Yangu Soothing Oil. She’s also looking forward to developing new skincare with even more incredible ingredients in the next few months. As for being an entrepreneur with a growing brand, she says, “The hardest part of my job is finding balance. As a busy working wife, mother and friend, balance is key. I want to be at 100% with everything but quite often certain parts of life are at a solid 50-75%. That being said, the best thing I can do for myself is to go easy on myself. Doing and trying your best is the best way to achieve balance.”
We certainly can’t wait to see what’s next for this inspiring founder and her awesome brand!
